Anvi Folder Locker and DOS session

Postby JoAligato » 2015-04-02 5:21

Hello,

I'm using Anvi Folder and it's working pretty well (interface well designed and easy to use...).
I'm just struggling with 1 topic. If I lock a file or a folder, I need a password to access it using the Windows File Explorer (even on virtual drives as the one mounted by BoxCryptor), but if I launch a DOS session (command.com), I can go to this drive, enter in locked folder / copy locked file
Is there any work-around to have a 100% secure solution, even when using DOS command ?

Thanks in advance for your reply

Hi and welcome to Anvisoft forum. Thanks for your support for our program.

I have to explain that actually, the Anvi Folder Locker only allow users to access the locked via Explorer. If you didn't access the file via explorer, the DOS visit will never show you the locked file. So, your problem is solved. :D

Should you have any other issue, please leave us a reply.

Hello Ivy,

I agree with you as far as I' trying to lock file/folder on a physical media
e.g : C:\Photos, if I go under DOS, and type cd C;\Photos, I will get a access denied message which is what I'm expected.

The use case I'm facing is a little bit more tricky...
I'm using Boxcryptor Classic - last available version (https://www.boxcryptor.com/en/classic), free edition on top of DropBox
BoxCryptor creates a Virtual drive (e.g. P:) which allows to access locally to the data (in a readable format) which are crypted on the cloud.

1) In Anvi Folder Locket 1.7, I'm able to select a folder in this virtual drive and lock it (e.g. P:\Pictures). Let's said that I have a file image.jpg in this folder
2) From the Window file explorer, if I try to open Pictures folder under P: drive, I got a message, locked by Anvi Folder Locket 1.2 --> Great !
3) I open a Dos session (command.com) and I type the following
> P:
> cd Pictures
> cp image.jpg c:\
--> I can copy image.jpg file in an unprotected folder

Thanks for your help

Best regards

Hi JoAligato,

When you access the image.jpg file in the folder via Explorer, have you ever put in the password?

If you have entered the password to view it, then you will be able to check the image.jpg file via DOS. If you have not entered the password when check via Explorer, the DOS visit will show you message that access denied.

Hello Ivy,

Thanks for your help on this topic
> When you access the image.jpg file in the folder via Explorer, have you ever put in the password?
Yes. I'm not able to view it using Windows Explorer, wherever the folder / file is located ( Physical C:\Photos or Virtual P:\Pictures)
I've try both options (Lock / Password). Both of them works fine under Windows Explorer

>If you have entered the password to view it, then you will be able to check the image.jpg file via DOS. If you have not entered the password when check via Explorer, the DOS visit will show you message that access denied.
The DOS visits will show you message that access denied
--> Yes for physical drives (C:\Photos)
--> No for virtual drives (P:\Pictures)

I think my request deals with ability for Anvi Folder Locker to support BoxCryptor logical drive

Thanks again for your support

No for virtual drives (P:\Pictures)

For the virtual drives, can you access directly or anything else?

Whatever AnviSoft configuration for folders or files located on virtual drive, it seems there is no protection under a dos session

thanks for your support
