How to Remove Potentially Unwanted Program? (PUP Removal Guide)

You may find that a Potentially Unwanted Program or PUP sneaking into your operating system without your consent. You may find trouble to remove the PUP because your antivirus or anti-malware program do not detect is as a threat. If you have trouble to remove a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP), following guide may help you fix your computer problem.


A Potentially Unwanted Program is not a malware or virus, but it is regarded as annoying undesirable program because it always takes dishonest methods to install itself on your computer. What's more, it may also not include normal uninstall and lack of practical measure, except distributing advertisement without asking permission.


Although a PUP program is not a malware or Trojan virus, it can also be a source of potential threats to your privacy information. A PUP may do following activities on your computer after settled on:


It may monitor certain types of information such as your access to certain websites,

It may collect those information and use them for illegal purpose.

It may distribute and display you pop-ups which may contain malicious code.

It may change your browser settings to allow further virus infection or attack.

It may embed unwanted code to your browser that may make your browser crashed or slow.


How PUPs/Potentially Unwanted Program spread?


Potentially Unwanted Programs may have their own homepage to promote, such as Babylon toolbar, but in most case, they spread via being bundled with unrelated programs, Movie players, Downloader Manager or any other similar program. YourFile Downloader distribute Babylon Toobar and and iLivid distribute searchnu toolbar.

You are highly recommended to remove Potentially Unwanted program if you are uncertain that you need the feature. If you are going to remove a PUP, please refer to following Guide.


Potentially Unwanted Program/PUP Removal Guide


Step1, Check and remove any suspicious program from your computer.


In case a Potentially Unwanted Program installed on your pc, please uninstall them all the keep your computer clean.

Removing program:

Please go to the Start Menu. Select Control PanelAdd/Remove Programs.
If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, select Control Panel Uninstall a Program.

Search for any suspicious program or toolbar in the list. Select the program and click Remove button. If you are using Windows
Vista/7, click Uninstall up near the top of that window.

Important Note: As the PUP program writes the file to registry entries, you are highly recommended to take Anvi Uninstaller to remove the Potentially Unwanted Program quickly and completely.

Browser Problem Troubleshooting Tips


After you remove the Potentially Unwanted Program manually, you may still have problem on your browser such as it acts sluggish, displays error messages, crashes unexpectedly, or any other problems. Following tips will guide you to repair your browser.


Remove add-ons and extensions


The pop up virus may download and install unexpected malicious toolbar or extension on your browser, make sure removing them all.

In Google Chrome click the wrench icon, navigate to Tools > Extensions and remove any malicious extension from the list.

In Mozilla Firefox navigate to Tools > Add-ons > Extensions and remove all malicious extensions.

In Microsoft Internet Explorer navigate to Tools > Manage add-ons and remove all malicious add-ons.


Delete additional unwanted Search Engine settings


The search engines always come together with toolbar or extension; please make sure removing or disabling the malicious search engines before you repair the home page.

In Google Chrome, click the wrench icon and navigate to Settings > Manage search engines… click the X next to any suspicious search engines.

In Mozilla Firefox, click the small search magnify glass near the search box (not url/search field) and click “Manage Search Engines…”.

Remove any suspicious search engines from the list by highlighting the selection and clicking remove.

In Microsoft Internet Explorer, please navigate to Tools > Manage Add Ons and remove the malicious search engine from the list.


Repair Homepage (start up page) settings


In Google Chrome click the wrench icon and navigate to Settings. Click “Set pages” under the On startup option. Remove any malicious websites and replace with your preferred URL.

In Mozilla Firefox navigate to Tools > Options. Under the General tab remove any malicious URL from the “Home Page:” field and replace with your preferred home page.

In Microsoft Internet Explorer navigate to Tools >Internet Options. Remove any malicious URLs from the Home Page field and replace with your preferred URL.

You can remove unwanted programs in a very Simple way

Click Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs
Then on currently installed programs select the unwanted and then Right Click to choose Uninstall or Remove Option
Your program will be uninstall

It may happens that the PUP program hidden them or disguise as s different program name. Anvi Smart Defender can detect and remove any PUP programs.

If your have unexpected problem occurred on your computer, you should check carefully the existence of PUP programs.

These unwanted programs are difficult to delete because of their automatic recreation.

The Internet is filled with free programs and tools making promises they fall short of, or that once installed performs unwanted acts. Potentially unwanted programs or PUPs are scattered throughout the Internet, whether a website offering or an inclusion in a freeware download.
