Hi Brain,

Welcome to Anvisoft Official forum. I am Ivy and I am going to help you with your problem.

Encrypt file is a features of Windows system that allows uses to store information on hard disk in an encrypted format. Encrypting file is a way to protect file from unknown access.

To encrypt a folder or file, please below listed steps:

1) Right-click the folder or file you want to encrypt, and then click Properties.

2) Click the General tab, and then click Advanced.

3) Select the Encrypt contents to secure data check box, and then click OK.

Important Note: You should back up your encryption certificate at the first time when you encrypt a folder or file. If your certificate and key are lost or damaged and you do not have a backup, you won't be able to use the files that you have encrypted.

Hope my answer is helpful to you.

Hello Brain....
Last Year I tried the same thing of putting a password on a folder... Well I don't remember all the steps that I used because I was guided by an online tech support firm.. Still I do remember some of the steps.. and I think these steps will help you.

1: Choose the folder to password-protect. Select all files needed to be protected and place them inside the folder. Several folders may be placed inside the folder to be protected to sort out different types of files.
2: Right click on the folder to be protected then scroll down to the option 'Properties' and click. Click on the 'Sharing' tab and check the box that says 'Make this folder private' and press the 'apply' button.
3: A prompt will then appear and a password must be provided. Choose 'Yes'. Enter the password and confirm it and a third prompt will ask for a password hint, in case the password is lost or forgotten.

hi Brain
As par my knowledge It's not possible to specifically put a password on a folder and using something like folder encryption wouldn't be of use to you either given all of your family use the same account.

>>Short of recommending the use of different accounts which would be wise you could look at some of the solutions available out there such as PGP and so on.

>>You could also consider password protecting the actual files, so your password file for example, if it's in Microsoft Word, add a password there.

>>Simple answer though is to use different user-accounts.

1. You can use some code to creat a password protected folder as follow:
if EXIST "Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}" goto UNLOCK
if NOT EXIST MyFolder goto MDMyFolder
echo Are you sure to lock this folder? (Y/N)
set/p "cho=>"
if %cho%==Y goto LOCK
if %cho%==y goto LOCK
if %cho%==n goto END
if %cho%==N goto END
echo Invalid choice.
ren MyFolder "Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}"
attrib +h +s "Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}"
echo Folder locked
goto End
echo Enter password to Unlock Your Secure Folder
set/p "pass=>"
if NOT %pass%== anykeylogger goto FAIL
attrib -h -s "Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}"
ren "Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}" MyFolder
echo Folder Unlocked successfully
goto End
echo Invalid password
goto end
md MyFolder
echo MyFolder created successfully
goto End

Save the notepad file as lock.bat
double click on lock.bat and a new folder will be created with name MyFolder
Copy all your data you want to protect in that New folder
Now double click on lock.bat and when command promp appears Type Y and press enter.
Now MyFolder will be hidden from you view, to access that folde double click on lock.bat
It will ask for password enter your password and done. (Default password is anykeylogger)
(To change the password replace anykeylogger with new password in the above code)

2. You also can use the third program, like kakasoft folder protector to do the job for you.
